I have provided consultancy services for a number of companies involved in the field of neurological rehabilitation for many years. I have been particularly involved with companies that produce botulinum toxin, including Ipsen, Allergan and more recently Merz. I have also taken a particular interest in the legalisation of cannabis for medicinal purposes in the UK and have provided consultancy and advisory services to GW Pharma Ltd who will hopefully obtain a licence for medicinal cannabis (Sativex) in the next year or so.

There are other commercial organisations that are developing neurological rehabilitation services and I have provided consultancy services around the development of neurological rehabilitation for these companies. 

I have run a private botulinum clinic for a number of years, which is now based at the Dovetail Dental clinic in Newcastle - www.dovetaildental.co.uk. This clinic provides private botulinum injections and is particularly focused on those indications that are not available on the NHS. This includes botulinum injections for migraine, back pain, neck pain after whiplash injury as well as the better known cosmetic injections. Further details available at www.barnesclinic.co.uk.

I left the NHS in December 2007 and in January 2008, with my business colleague John Donovan, established a new rehabilitation company - Hunters Moor Neurorehab Ltd. I have long recognised that there is a significant gap in the market for the provision of rehabilitation for people with neurological disabilities who remain at home or have been discharged from hospital. This is a service that is provided very poorly, or not provided at all in some parts of the country, by the NHS. We have also recognised the need for "slow stream" rehabilitation facilities and have formed a partnership with United Medical Enterprises (www.umeservices.co.uk) to run a number of in-patient rehabilitation facilities around the UK.
